Seven people were killed and several others injured after a passenger bus plunged into a deep gorge in Uttarakhand’s Almora district on Tuesday morning.

The accident occurred in the Vinayak area when the bus, travelling from Bhikiyasain to Ramnagar, reportedly lost control and veered off the road. The vehicle was carrying around 17–18 passengers at the time of the incident.

The State Disaster Response Force (SDRF), along with local police, rushed to the spot after receiving information through the District Control Room (DCR), Almora. Rescue teams are engaged in pulling out survivors from the wreckage and shifting the injured to nearby medical facilities.

According to preliminary information, seven passengers are feared to have died, while the injured have been admitted to the Government Hospital in Bhikiyasain for treatment.

Almora Senior Superintendent of Police Devendra Pincha said, “Rescue teams have been dispatched to the spot. There are reports of some fatalities.” According to the information received via the State Disaster Response Fund team, seven people are declared dead. At the same time, the injured passengers have been admitted to the Government Hospital in Bhikiyasain.”

PM Modi condoles loss of lives

Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed grief over the loss of lives in the fatal bus accident. In a post on a social media platform, the Prime Minister said, “The loss of lives due to a bus mishap in the Almora district of Uttarakhand is extremely saddening. Condolences to those who have lost their loved ones. May the injured recover at the earliest.”

CM Dhami expresses distress, says closely monitoring rescue efforts

Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami also expressed deep sorrow over the incident. In a post on X, he said the news of the bus accident on the Bhikiyasain–Vinayak motor road was “extremely distressing and heart-wrenching.” He offered prayers for the departed souls and strength to the bereaved families.

The Chief Minister has directed the district administration to ensure medical treatment for the injured. Those with critical injuries have been referred to higher medical centres for advanced care. Dhami added that he is personally monitoring the situation and remains in constant touch with administrative officials.
